Shifting Lenses: Embracing Change

On New Year’s Day, fresh from a run and still catching my breath, I announced, “I’m joining you for Dry January.” Jenn looked at me, puzzled. I’d brushed off her decision in December without a second thought, but suddenly, the idea seemed not just a challenge but an adventure.

Dry January transcended being a mere challenge; it became a new way to experience the world, resonating deeply with the Life Is Too Short Guy (LITSG) philosophies: Minutes Matter, Take a Chance and Get It Done Today, and the essence of Learn, Learn, Learn.

Routine shapes our days, but Dry January offered a break from the monotony, a chance to tread an uncharted path. What I discovered was eye-opening: a plethora of non-alcoholic options previously unnoticed, diverse reactions from peers that ranged from admiration to defensiveness, and a societal lens on alcohol consumption that I had never considered.

The spontaneous “chance” I took as a challenge turned out to be amazing. I started to view the world from a different perspective as I watched the world around me react and behave in ways I hadn’t noticed before. Most importantly, as I think of my precious minutes I refer to as “gold coins,” I used my time wisely for learning and reflection. Abstinence from alcohol was not much of a challenge, but the observation of the world around me through a new lens was invaluable.

I encourage you to embrace something new, to see the world through a different lens. Break the monotony, not just for the sake of change, but to enrich your life. Remember, life is too short for routines. Every minute is a chance to learn something new.

Make today extraordinary, the best day ever!

Regards,

Scott
